We suggest the SM58 for any range of budget because it has proven that it has the adaptability for all different types of venues. Despite the size of the room, it has frequency responses that capture both speaking and singing voices well, even including some instruments.

Who’s using the SM58?

SM58’s have been used for rock and roll concerts because of their lack of sensitivity to sounds surrounding the microphone. It’s rumored that Michael Jackson recorded with the SM58 as well as Mick Jagger and Bono.

Performers like Roger Daltrey, Paul McCartney, Henry Rollins, Patti Smith, Alice Cooper, Buddy Guy, Cheap Trick, G. Love, Martina McBride, and more have been able to use the mic in live settings as well.

What’s the durability like?

Let’s just say you could run over the mic with a car and it would still work. No, seriously, look it up on YouTube! According to Shure, Ernie Seeler, the inventor of the SM58, tested earlier versions of the mic back in the 60’s by dropping, cooking, and freezing the mic.
